Custom chipboard boxes are dense, stiff and made from recycled fiber. Chipboard is a cost-friendly way to get sturdy packaging, from light cartons to the thick core inside luxury rigid boxes.
Chipboard comes in a wide range of thicknesses. Thin sheets fold like cardboard, while thick sheets are used as a solid core that is wrapped or laminated. For background on the material, see this overview of recycled paperboard.
| Thickness | Roughly | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Light | About 0.5 mm (20pt) | Folding cartons, cereal-style boxes, backing cards |
| Medium | About 1 mm | Inserts, dividers, sturdy trays, puzzle and game boxes |
| Heavy | 1.5 to 3 mm | Rigid box cores, book-style boxes, premium gift boxes |

Low cost. Chipboard is made from recycled paper, which makes it one of the most budget-friendly board options for sturdy packaging.
Stiff and dense. It resists bending better than many paperboards of the same weight, so boxes feel solid in the hand.
Eco-friendly. Chipboard is made from recycled content and can be recycled again. Its natural grey or brown surface can be printed directly, wrapped in printed paper, or finished with a label. For a natural brown look, see kraft boxes.
For chipboard packaging with a raw, honest look, choose recycled chipboard boxes printed directly. For a polished result, we make chipboard boxes with logo printing on a wrapped finish.
Chipboard boxes give old paper a second life, and paper and paperboard reached a 68.2 percent US recycling rate in 2018 according to the EPA.

Chipboard is stiff but it has no fluted layer, so it is not built for courier shipping on its own. For mailing, choose corrugated board or ship chipboard boxes inside an outer carton.
